Mayweather vs McGregor: The Money Belt

The moment you think something can't get more ridiculous, it will. That nugget could apply to any one of a number of things in the world today, but it is particularly appropriate in one case - Floyd Mayweather vc Conor McGregor. The "big money fight" takes place this weekend and two of the biggest self-promoters in combat sports have been going at it for weeks. With ridiculous outfits, shouty press conferences and endless bating each other, the two motormouths have made this one of the biggest events in the sporting calendar. But just when we thought the sweltering air of braggadocio could not get any heavier, it has. Ladies and gentlemen, presenting "The Money Belt".

The World Boxing Council has unveiled the piece of bling, which is worth nothing in fight terms. It is made with 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 160 emeralds and about 3.3lbs of 24-karat gold. Whichever way you spin it that is ridiculous.

Somewhere I imagine WWE head honcho Vince McMahon is scratching his head at how the "legit" fight sports such as boxing and MMA have managed to usurp his "sports entertainment". Or rubbing his hands at the thought of his own superfight between Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones - but I digress.

For now, buckle up folks because this weekend's fight just got sillier. After all this I really hope it's a good showdown. For those who care; my heart says McGregor, my head says Mayweather.
