Getting your sh*t together

"They've got their sh*t together and that's very attractive."

I was having a chat with a friend the other day. We were discussing a mutual acquaintance who my friend was fairly taken with; on top of the traditional attributes my friend was particularly impressed by the fact the person in question had their life in order.

In a world where the physical is seen as paramount and the millenials are being forced to set up shop in their parents' house and wait for life to kick in, a little substance goes a long way.

Speaking as someone who has done their fair share of aimless drifting there is a lot to be said for finding a path and doing something with it.

In American Pie Don McLean sang about "a generation lost in space", now don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that is where we are, but we have a generation which is looking and thinking short term. I know, I'm one of them.

We are a group of 20 and 30-somethings living in temporary homes, socialising on Facebook, sharing our lives on Instagram and not looking much beyond the immediate horizon.

So in that context, someone with a plan and a life is aspirational. And that is attractive.
