Lupin is Netflix's best show right now
Netflix's new show Lupin has dropped and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I love the Arsène Lupin character. He is a gentleman thief, who was created in the early 20th century by autho Maurice LeBlanc. Very much in the mould of AJ Raffles and Rocambole, Lupin featured in a series of novels and novellas across the 1900s which saw him operate os a kind of force for good despite being on the wrong side of the law.
This new adaptation is not a direct Lupin story. Omar Sy stars as Assane Diop, a gentleman thief in modern day Paris who is inspired by the stories of Lupin. The series has a broader arch too, as Diop seeks to get to the bottom of what happened to his father who was arrested for stealing a necklace and then died in prison.
The whole show is beautifully shot and acted and makes the most of its Parisien setting. Omar Sy is outstanding as the central figure and carries the show with grace and swagger.
Do yourself a favour though and watch this in the original French with subtitles on. The dubbing isn't great on the English version.
