The Macallan Boutique Collection
Updated: Nov 20, 2019

Recently, I was lucky enough to be given a look around the new Macallan Boutique store at Heathrow Airport.
For whisky fans among you, it is in Terminal 5, to the right of security, where the Harry Potter shop used to be. But I digress.

To celebrate the launch of its Boutiques programme, Macallan has released a new Boutiques range of whiskies which are only avaialble at these stores. I got my hands on the 2019 edition and it has grabbed a place firmly near the top of my list of favourites.

I'm beginning to think I am partia lto Scotch whiskies made in the Speyside area, as I'm also a huge fanc of Copper Dog, which is made close to the new Macallan Distillery, which the brand opened wth some fanfare last year. This Boutique expression is inspired by the River Spey, which flows along the Macallan estate and it has a sweet and fresh texture which brings to life the air in that part of the Scottish Highlands.

The bottle itself is beautiful. The blue detailing makes is stand out and the imagery celebrates The Vermillion Lakes in Canada, which apparently echo the scenery of Macallan's Highlands home.

Once you get the bottle open, that attactive physical presentation is easily surpassed by the liquid inside. Seasoned in both American and European oak cherry casks, this Single Malt has notes of toffee and dried fruit, which make it the perfect end to an autumn day. To taste, it has a sweet and fruity flavour with a certain oakiness at the finish.

These bottles are not widely available at the moment, but if you can seek one out I would highly recommend doing so. Here's to the end of the week and the start of autumn.

You can find more from the Macallan range here.
